Dr. R. Krishna Kumar is a distinguished pediatric cardiologist and Clinical Professor, heading the Department of Pediatric Cardiology at Amrita Hospital, Kochi. Trained at AIIMS and Children’s Hospital Boston, he has been instrumental in establishing the pediatric heart program at Amrita Hospital since 1998, turning it into a globally recognized center for clinical care, research, and training. With over 250 publications, his clinical expertise spans echocardiography, catheter interventions, and pediatric intensive care. Dr. Kumar’s research focuses on pediatric heart disease epidemiology, rheumatic heart disease, and infection control in Indian hospitals. He is also committed to improving pediatric cardiac care in resource-limited settings. His contributions include innovative, low-cost strategies for congenital heart defect management, and he has led major community-based studies on heart disease in South India. He is an International Fellow of the American Heart Association and has received numerous awards, including the Sitaram Jaipuria Award for Excellence in Medicine.
