The Department of Food Science and Nutrition actively engages in research that aligns seamlessly with the University’s mission to promote innovation-driven research for societal impact. This focus has enabled the Department to rapidly develop numerous socially relevant products and prototypes. Financial support for these initiatives comes from government grants, particularly from the Government of India, as well as contributions from industrial partners. Moreover, faculty members benefit from the University’s internal seed grants, which provide crucial support at various stages of their research projects.

Over the past seven years, the Department has successfully secured funding totaling ₹550 lakhs from government bodies. The University plays a key role in fostering a research-friendly environment, offering technical assistance and providing annual incentives to faculty members who secure external grants or submit research proposals.

The Department’s research output is significant, with numerous publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed international journals. Additionally, three Indian patents have been filed by the Department.

The Department fully supports the University’s mandate requiring B.Sc. (Hons) students to publish their work. As a result, several undergraduate students have been able to publish their thesis research in reputable journals. This publication requirement encourages students to plan and execute their research in a structured and methodical manner. Undergraduate students are also trained in data analysis, manuscript preparation, and submission to journals or conferences, all with the guidance of their academic advisors.

The Department is equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities and infrastructure to carry out cutting-edge research in frontier science areas. Dedicated laboratories have been established for diverse fields, including the development of point-of-care diagnostic devices, biosensors, food product development, optics, drug discovery, materials science, energy storage materials, fuel cells, batteries, and super capacitors.
