Medical Education

The department will teacher train all the teaching faculty members only working at Amrita.
Faculty members not working in Amrita are supposed to get in touch with their respective Medical Education Departments (or MEUs) or the NMC Nodal Centres affiliated to their campuses. According to NMC any faculty in the School of Medicine who is an Assistant Professor or above and who is acknowledged by the NMC as Teaching Faculty in their respective departments must register for this program. As of now, any kind of teacher training program done anywhere in India before 2015 has become invalid; since from 2015 onwards MCI had updated the syllabus renaming the course from BCW as RBCW in MET. In 2023 NMC has renamed RBCW to BCME (Basic Course in Medical Education)

It is mandatory for 100% of all the faculty members in School of Medicine to undergo this Teacher Training Programme. It is a 3-day course (including AETCOM [Attitude Ethics and Communication] training) and the attendance is mandatory for all the sessions on all the days for obtaining the NMC endorsed certificate. The certificate is valid for a period of 5 years. The name/s of those faculty members who have completed training will be uploaded into the website of the NMC through the NMC Inspector who will be coming as ‘observer’ for each workshop session in AIMS. The teacher training details will be tagged along with the NMC Teacher ID of each faculty in the website.

On successful completion of the course

On successful completion of the course; the doctors in their ‘declaration forms’ (for NMC inspections) can enter the complete details of this training on the second page (top portion). BCME will be a 3-day NMC Observed program with mandatory attendance for all the sessions. Timings of the sessions will be from 8:30am to 5:00 pm on all the three days.

Any teaching faculty who has completed BCME is expected to get CISP (Curriculum Implementation Support Program) done soon. While BCME gives a basic knowledge about the new CBME (Competency Based Medical Education) curriculum and updated TLMs (Teaching Learning Methods), CISP makes the teaching faculty members competent to practically implement CBME in their respective departments. Faculty members who have not done BCME are not eligible for taking part in CISP. CISP is a 2-day NMC Observed program with mandatory attendance for all the sessions. Timings of the sessions will be from 8:30am to 5:00pm on all the two days.

Note:

Any form of registration that was done earlier (offline) has been cancelled. Please ensure that you have concurrence with your unit Chief/HOD, on your participation. We will not be necessarily sending any letters to them directly before/after the Program about your registration/selection. The final decision of selection of participants rests on the Coordinator of this Department. All participants need to bring a laptop and their own hotspot/WiFi connectivity for the workshop
