Dear Readers,

We are excited to present the fifth edition of our e-magazine, Rasatantra after a long break of two years. We are overwhelmed by the great interest, encouragement and very warm reception of our e-magazine.

The current edition contains four articles, related to diverse areas of chemistry and environmental science.

Dr. Sudarsanam Putla from Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad,has contributed awonderful and informative article on ‘Significance of nanomaterials for heterogeneous catalysis.’ The article discusses about the advantages of nanomaterials and their versatile applications in the catalytic processes of industrial importance.

Dr. Sumith Satheendran S. of Department of Chemistry, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri has written an educative article on ‘The Evolution of Geographic Information Systems in the 21st Century: An Incredible Journey.’ Whichprovides a detailed information about the development of geographic information systems.

Ms. Mahita P. M. and Ms. Reshma G. Ph. D. students of Department of Chemistry, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri alongwith Dr. Naveen Kulkarni, Department of Chemistry, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri have contributed an article on ‘Biofuels’ which discusses about the importance of biofuels in this age of high energy demand.

Ms.Vindhya Hegde, Ph. D. student of Department of Physics, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri along with Dr. Naveen Kulkarni, Department of Chemistry, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri has written article on the basic structure and working of the ‘Dye Sensitized Solar Cells.’
