Qualitative research methods. It introduces qualitative research and discusses methods such as interviews, observations, and case studies. It also covers data collection and analysis in qualitative research.
Quantitative research methods. It introduces students to quantitative research and discusses methods such as surveys and experiments. It also covers statistical analysis of data in quantitative research.
Mixed methods research. It discusses how to combine qualitative and quantitative methods and outlines sequential and concurrent strategies. It also discusses the benefits and challenges of mixed methods research.
Application of research in design. It discusses how to translate research into design decisions, ethical considerations in design research, and how to present research findings.
Course Objective:
The course objectives of this subject are manifold. Firstly, it aims to help students understand the importance of research in the design process. Secondly, it introduces students to various qualitative and quantitative research methods. Thirdly, it provides opportunities for students to apply these research methods in design projects. Fourthly, it equips students with the skills to analyze and interpret research data for design decision making. Lastly, it aims to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through research.
