Syllabus

Unit I

Introduction to Photography

Understanding the history and evolution of photography – Exploring different genres and styles of photography – Introduction to camera types, components, and basic operations -Hands-on exercises: Camera handling, basic shooting techniques, framing and composition.

Unit II

Fundamentals of Exposure

Camera Operation and Manual Settings – Understanding the exposure triangle: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO – Exposure metering modes and techniques – Depth of field and its creative applications -Motion blur control and techniques.

Unit III

Lighting Techniques

White balance and its uses in different lighting situations. – Natural light vs. artificial light: characteristics and applications – Understanding light quality, direction, and intensity. – Using reflectors, diffusers, and artificial lighting equipment – Hands-on exercises: Lighting setups and portrait photography.

Unit IV

Lens Dynamics

Choosing different types of lenses and their uses. – Choice of different camera Filters- Understanding different angles and shots – Camera movements.

Unit V

Hands-on exercises

Advanced shooting techniques and exploration of specialized photography. Presentation of theme based photographic works.

Objectives and Outcomes

Objective:

This course aims to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in photography techniques and practices essential for effective communication and expression in the field of visual media. Through a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on exercises, students will develop a deep understanding of various photographic concepts, tools, and methods, enabling them to create compelling visual narratives and imagery.

Course Outcome (CO):

CO1: Recognize and categorize significant milestones and advancements in the history of photography, demonstrating comprehension through categorization and recall.

CO2: Demonstrate the application of knowledge by explaining the interrelation between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO in attaining optimal exposure in various photographic scenarios.

CO3: Analyze the significance of white balance in diverse lighting environments and justify its importance through critical examination and interpretation of photographic outcomes.

CO4: Critically assess the appropriateness of different lens types for distinct photographic purposes, utilizing comparison and evaluation to determine effectiveness.

CO5: Apply higher-order thinking skills to develop innovative shooting techniques and delve into specialized domains of photography like macro or street photography, integrating knowledge to create original approaches.

CO6: Synthesize acquired knowledge and skills to design and execute a photography project, integrating various concepts and techniques learned throughout the course into a coherent presentation.
