Syllabus

Unit I

Introduction to Design Thinking

Overview of design thinking principles and methodology- Understanding the importance of empathy and user-centered design- Introduction to real-world design challenges.

Unit II

Empathy and User Research

Techniques for conducting user research and interviews, developing empathy maps and user personas, Analyzing and synthesizing research findings.

Unit III

Ideation and Concept Development

Brainstorming techniques for generating ideas – Prototyping methods to explore and visualize concepts- Iterative design process for refining and developing solutions.

Unit IV

Prototyping and Testing

Creating low-fidelity prototypes using paper, wireframes, and mock-ups- Gathering feedback and iterating on design solutions- Conducting user testing and usability evaluations.

Unit V

Collaboration and Communication

Working effectively in multidisciplinary teams- Communicating design ideas through visual storytelling- Presenting and pitching design solutions to stakeholders.

Objectives and Outcomes

Objective:

Gain an understanding of the design thinking process, including empathy, define, ideate, prototype, and test. Learn how to conduct user research, interviews, and observations to gain insights into user needs and behaviors. Practice ideation techniques such as brainstorming, mind mapping, and sketching to generate diverse solutions. Develop prototyping skills using low-fidelity and high-fidelity methods to bring ideas to life and gather feedback. Collaborate with peers from different backgrounds to work on design challenges and projects.

CO1- Arrange design ideas and solutions through visual presentations and storytelling.
