Foundations of Aesthetics

This course provides an introduction to the principles and methods of aesthetic analysis and interpretation across various art forms. Through guided study, discussion, and critical reflection, students will develop the skills to analyze and interpret aesthetic qualities in visual arts, literature, music, film, and other cultural artifacts. Explore key concepts in aesthetics, including beauty, form, harmony, and expression. -Examine various approaches to aesthetic analysis, such as formalism, contextualism, and postmodernism. – Develop observational and analytical skills through close examination of visual arts, literature, music, film, and other cultural artifacts. Critically evaluate the role of cultural, historical, and social contexts in shaping aesthetic experiences and interpretations. Apply theoretical frameworks and critical perspectives to analyze and interpret aesthetic qualities in assigned readings, artworks, and multimedia presentations.
On completion of this course, students will be able to:
CO1– State fundamental concepts of aesthetics and aesthetic analysis.
CO2-Deconstruct and describe aesthetic elements in diverse artistic works.
CO3- Apply aesthetic analysis skills to create their own creative and critical endeavours.
CO4- Analyze and interpret the meaning and significance of aesthetic choices. CO5- Evaluate the relationship between form and content in artistic expression. CO6- Create output based on various aesthetic theories.
