Christina Bidmon

Christina Bidmon is tenured Assistant Professor at the Copernicus Institute for Sustainable Development at Utrecht University, The Netherlands, one of the leading interdisciplinary research institutes on sustainability in Europe and worldwide. In this capacity, Dr. Bidmon spearheads a research line at the interface of business model and sustainability transition research.

She has obtained several grants for her research. Currently, she supervises four doctoral candidates on topics such as financing the strategic transformation of incumbent business models or the collaboration between start-ups and incumbents during the implementation of circular business models. Dr. Bidmon coordinates several master-level courses on the study program Sustainable Business and Innovation and the study program Innovation Sciences. She also has experience in executive education and is currently setting up one of the first courses in the continuing education line of Utrecht University. Her distinct teaching expertise revolves around business models and business model innovation concerning current societal developments such as sustainability and digital transformation. In 2019, Dr. Bidmon served as the lead editor for a special volume on Teaching Business Models in the Journal of Business Model, which invited nineteen experts to share their insights and best practices on business model education. Most recently. Dr. Bidmon is editing a book on the same topic, to be published in 2025 in the Teaching Guide Series of Edward Elgar Publishing, UK.

Dr. Bidmon holds a M.A. in International Business Administration from the University of Hamburg, Germany, and the Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. She obtained her doctorate on the topic of ‘Managing sustainability transitions’ from the Aarhus School of Business and Social Sciences, Aarhus University, Denmark. She was awarded a personal stipend from the Portuguese Science Foundation to intensify her work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Smart City Innovation Lab at Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics, Portugal. Her international career path has allowed her to establish networks worldwide. Dr. Bidmon works with scholars in Denmark, Finland, France, Portugal, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, and Canada. She also conducts research together with applied research institutes, such as the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) or the Netherlands Enterprise Agency. She is frequently invited to give talks and guest lectures by foreign universities and companies.

Several Best Paper Awards have recognized the value of Dr. Bidmon’s research. She also serves on academic bodies and committees. She is leading the Internationalization Team of the Sustainability Division of the Academy of Management and the Workshop Team of the Group for Research on Organizations and the Natural Environment.
