DHRUV team (first timers) from Amrita won the FUTURE AWARD prize at the SIEP E-bike Challenge 2023 organized by ISIE India and Co-organized by Galgotias University, Noida, India. The competition was held from 14th April to 18th April, 2023. The Dhruv team consisted of 20 students from ECE, EAC, EEE and ME branches, with Govind Jogesh of S6 ECE as Captain and Nidhin C P of S6 EAC as Vice-Captain, mentored by Dr. Rajesh Kannan Megalingam, Head, SMART Center [Sustainable, Mobility and Automotive Research Technology Center], Amritapuri Campus and supported by Shri. Naveen Prasad of SMART center and Shri. Mahendran J of HuT Labs.
The E-bike built by the DHRUV team!
The bike chassis was built from scratch with used parts and assembled by the students in front of HuT Labs corridor in three months’ time. Some of the features include 1.Light weight 2.Smart dashboard 3.Retro look appeal 4. Safety features like kill switch, smoke sensor, and temperature sensor 5.Different modes like reverse, normal, sport. The challenge consisted of a qualifier round followed by multiple rounds with various tasks. A total of 21 teams from various universities got selected for the qualifier round. 15 teams qualified for the finals including DHRUV team from Amrita.
Amrita student team “Na-Sarathy” from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus, qualified and competed till round two of the Indy Autonomous Challenge to compete in the world’s first $1.5 million autonomous racecar competition at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Led by Energy Systems Network (ESN), an Indianapolis-based non-profit and a branded initiative of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP) and CICP Foundation, Inc. (CICP Foundation), working in close collaboration with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS), the Indy Autonomous Challenge is a broadly collaborative effort that brings together public, private and academic institutions to challenge university students around the world to imagine, invent and prove a new generation of automated vehicle software and inspire the next generation of STEM talent.
