Ever since it was founded in 1880, VU Amsterdam has been known for its distinctive approach to knowledge. Founded in 1889 as New Mexico’s flagship institution, The University of New Mexico now occupies nearly 800 acres near old Route 66 in the heart of Albuquerque. Since its founding in 1827, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key center of intellectual talent and innovation. Department of Science & Technology (DST) was established in May 1971, with the objective of promoting new areas of Science & Technology and to play the role of a nodal department for organizing, coordinating and promoting S&T activities in the country. Natural Resources Data Management System (NRDMS) programme was initiated in 1982 by the Department of Science and Technology as a multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional R&D programme of the Department of Science and Technology, aimed at developing methodologies for building and promoting the use of spatial data management and analysis technologies in local area planning. For developing necessary inputs for local planning strategies, NRDMS is supporting several academic and R & D Institutions with projects specially focusing towards the need of local level planning. Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) was created in 12th July, 2006 bringing under its administrative control India Meteorological Department (IMD), Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) and National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF). The main mission of MoES is to conduct scientific and technical activities related to Earth System Science for improving forecasting of weather, monsoon, climate and hazards, exploration of polar regions, seas around India and develop technology for exploration and exploitation of ocean resources (living and non-living), ensuring their sustainable utilization.
