Dr. Shyam Diwakar presented ongoing work on Computational Neuroscience and his comments on future research at the one-day workshop for Young Faculty Research Fellows organised at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru by Media Labs Asia and Ministry of Electronics and IT, Government of India on July 28, 2017.
Dr. V. Srinivasa Chakravarthy, Department of Biotechnology, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, visted Computational Neuroscience Laboratory, Amrita School of Boitechnology, from July 20-22, 2017, and delivered talks on Basal Ganglia and Bharati – a common script for Indian languages.
Under the guidance of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Chancellor, Sri. Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Amrita Yoga Amritapuri and Amrita School of Biotechnology’s Computational Neuroscience Laboratory are working on brain activities before and after yoga practice, using EEG and functional modeling on short and long term practitioners.
Interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary studies are key to many success stories of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s research projects. Ministry of HRD’s National Mission in Education through Internet and Communication Technologies (NMEICT) had funded a massive project on building Virtual Laboratories for students who did not have access to laboratory education and skill training.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s VALUE Virtual Labs research team conducted Annual Nodal Centre Conference on May 12, 2017, at Amritapuri Campus, as a part of the VALUE Nodal Center Program.
A paper on Sakshat Amrita Virtual Labs titled, “Complementing Education via Virtual Labs: Implementation and Deployment of Remote Laboratories and Usage Analysis in South Indian Villages”, published in 2016 by International Journal of Online Engineering (iJOE), was awarded the “iJOE Outstanding Paper Award”.
Asha Vijayan, Chaitanya Nutakki (PhD students), Dhanush Kumar, a computer engineer, and Dr. Shyam Diwakar, based at the Computational Neuroscience Lab at Amrita School of Biotechnology, are working on bio-inspired robotics.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Professor Dr. Shyam Diwakar was an invited speaker at the School of Brain Cells & Circuits “Camillo Golgi” course titled “The cerebellum inside-out: cells, circuits and functions” held from December 1-5, 2016 at Erice, Italy. He gave a talk titled “Computational Neurosciences of Cerebellar Circuit Disorders” during the round table session.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and the University of Trento signed an agreement towards education and research mobility on Saturday, November 12th, 2016 in Busto Arsizio, Italy.
Prof. Shyam Diwakar gave an expert talk titled “Computational Neuroscience of Circuit Function and Dysfunction: a Cerebellum Perspective” at the at the XXXIV Annual Meeting of Indian Academy of Neurosciences (IAN) held at National Brain Research Center, Manesar, India from October 19-21, 2016.
