NSS is a student youth service programme aimed at arousing social consciousness among the youth with an overall objective of personality development of the students through community service. Amrita NSS actively involves itself in organizing various community development programmes for the benefit of villages located in the vicinity of the University.
In bringing a ray of hope to contribute to the serious problems of acute shortage of blood, a Blood Donation Camp was organized in our university on 20- 05-2022. India faces a blood shortage of 3 million units. The problem can be addressed if an additional two percent of Indians donate blood, as opened by the health experts. We need 12 million units of blood every year but just about nine million units are being donated. Our university has been religiously organizing blood donation camps every year and students and the faculty members come forward voluntarily to donate blood.
On 12th of January 2022 an event was conducted on account of National Youth Day, to encourage the students to imbibe the values of Swami Vivekananda and to follow his principles to build a nation full of physically and mentally strong and healthy youth.
On 31st of January, 2022, an online induction programme for Unit I of NSS and live webinar on sustainable energy development was conducted. The meeting was to acknowledge the new unit, its office bearers and members and to introduce them to the ventures of NSS. The gathering was also a platform for an interactive session with a professional who discussed on the role of youth in sustainable development to meet the energy needs of rural India.
On the 3rd of June 2022, an NSS Fit India Freedom Rider Cycle Event was conducted on the occasion of 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and World Bicycle Day. Students from various departments participated in the event along with the NSS program coordinator Dr.D. Venkataraman and student coordinators. Amrita University students participated in the Bicycle Rally of 7.5 km inside the campus.
With the blessings of our beloved Amma, the Parthenium eradication programme was conducted on 30March 2022 (Wednesday)at Amrita School of Agricultural Sciencesby NSS Unit6 from3.30 pm to 6.00 pm. Student volunteers of the 2021 batch actively participated in this event. Principal, Dr. Sudheesh Manalil initiated this programme with a lecture on the need for parthenium eradication. He emphasized the noxious nature of this weed and the ways for its eradication. He shared his research experiences on parthenium in Australia and explained the health ailments caused by this detrimental weed anddescribed the dispersal capability of this weed and made a great awareness among the youngsters on the need for its control.
On the 5th of June 2022, World Environment Day was celebrated by planting trees as a project of “AMRITAVANAM “near KALARI. Students From various departments actively participated in the event of Planting trees.
The 73rd Republic Day Celebrations were held at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on 26th January, 2022. The event began at 8:55 am with a prayer song. The National Flag was hoisted by the chief guest Dr. O.J. Kumaresan, Director of Physical Education. It was followed by the National Anthem. After that, there was a speech by the chief guest highlighting the glories of the Indian Constitution.
On the blessings of Amma, the inauguration of the NSS programme was conducted on 06/11/2022, Thursday at 5.00 to 6.00 pm in the online platform Microsoft teams at Amrita School of Agricultural Sciences. Student volunteers of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agri. of 2019, 2020 and 2021 batches and all the faculty members attended this inauguration programme. The programme started with a prayer which was presented by Aparna. S. of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture 2019 batch.
