The Amrita Students Debating Society (ASDS) of CIR was formally inaugurated by Shri. C. Parameswaran, Principal Director, CIR onthe4th of September 2023.
The inaugural function began with the uplifting prayer song by R. Ananya, a 3rd year student of Computer Science Engineering.
Mr. V. Suresh, Deputy Manager, Verbal Communication and faculty in-charge of ASDS, delivered the Welcome Speech.
In his inaugural address, Shri. C. Parameswaran urged the ASDS members to use the debating skills for nation building. Underling the importance of debating skills, he observed that by participating in structured debates, one develops empathy for others, appreciates divergent viewpoints and takes criticisms in the stride.
In the felicitation speech, Shri. Suresh Kodoor, Director, Academic and Industry Partnership, appreciated the faculty and students for the extra-ordinary initiative. While emphasizing the benefits that debates bestows on a person, he exhorted the ASDS team to provide many opportunities to those who yearn to be heard.
In his special address, Dr. A. Balachandran, Additional Director, Career Competency Development, expressed his happiness about CIR starting a debating society. He said ASDS has a great potential for improving the communication skills of the students, which will help them do well in job interviews and be confident at workplaces.
Dr. Madhu Menon, General Manager, Career Competency Development, in his keynote address, stressed the ASDS members should be the epitome of commitment and leadership. He added that for one to be competent and confident in debating,one must train oneself consistently.
M. S Sree Mridhula, a 3rd year student of Artificial Intelligence Engineering, presented an overview of ASDS. Outlining the vision and mission of ASDS, she mentioned its salient features. At the end of her presentation, a short video highlighting the major events conducted before ASDS was formally formedwas shown.
At the end, ASDS members introduced themselves and Varun Sankara Narayanan, a 3rd year student of Computer Science Engineering, proposed a vote of thanks.
