Ramayana Month falls in the month of Karkkidakam (July –August). During this month, the epic Ramayana is recited in homes and temples, from the first day of the month to the last day of the month for 31 days. In the past, majority of people depended on agriculture and the monsoon was at its peak during this month of extreme scarcity. Ramayana recitation during this time was considered as a propitious practice that would ensure the well being of the individual and the community. As this tradition carries on to the present time, it helps purifying the mind and sanitizing the illness of body, which in turn results spiritual purification of body and mind.
At Amritapuri campus, we celebrate Ramayana Month by organizing a series of lectures, talks, quizzes in Karkidaka Masam and Chitrarpan based on the epic of Ramayana.
