Microgrids includes a variety of energy sources, storage systems, and loads. Microgrid feeds its small scale consumers with its own resources and can operate independently. It may also be connected to grid, to support the power shortage in the microgrid. As the major source of the microgrid is renewable in nature, energy management in the microgrid is challenging. This project investigates implementation of Machine learning techniques in energy management of Microgrids. They are operated in a regulated, hierarchical manner with improved cost benefits to the consumers and service providers, less transmission and distribution losses, improved reliability, less environmental impact, and optimised resource utilisation.
