The study is an attempt to look into the Film representation of Theyyam, the most popular ritual and traditional art form, and even more the cultural icon of North Kerala, the Southernmost state in India, through the lenses of Iconographic and Semiotic Analysis. The research aims to study how mass media, particularly Films help Cultural Communication and shape Cultural Iconography of regions, by way of on-screen presentation of cultural images and artefacts like rituals, art forms etc. which are inseparable from their identity. This helps in having a deeper and new understanding of the role of media in establishing and maintaining regional cultures. Methodologically, Qualitative Content Analysis and Audience Perception Study can be used. Well acclaimed Malayalam Films made in the backdrop of Theyyam are selected for detailed analysis.
