AARTC is established to facilitate basic and applied research projects along with the industry and government agencies. It also offers engineering services to the automotive industry to establish an active and fruitful University–Industry Interaction. It houses the state-of-art facilities for automotive research in areas specializing in IC Engine testing, Electric Vehicle (EV) and Hybrid Powertrain testing, motor testing, vehicle electronics and vehicle dynamics and simulation. Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) Lab
NVH Lab stands as a specialized centre, meticulously designed to undertake comprehensive analysis and efficient mitigation of noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) issues prevalent in automotive systems. Equipped with cutting-edge instrumentation and advanced testing methodologies, NVH lab serves as a pivotal hub for identifying and strategically addressing NVH concerns.

HEAD lab data acquisition system is an ideal for sound and vibration measurement in automotive research. With its, high data rates, and synchronization capabilities via GPS it offers unparalleled versatility and adaptability for challenging mobile applications. The HEAD link interface protocol, powers this system, enabling sample rates from 8 to 204.8 kHz per channel and facilitating seamless expansion up to several hundred channels for extensive automotive research data collection.

Transient Dynamometer
The Transient Dynamometer at Amrita Automotive Research and Technology Centre serves as a crucial tool for engine testing within our research facilities. A 160 kW transient dyno enables precise and dynamic evaluation of engines under various transient conditions. Its utility lies in facilitating thorough testing, allowing for in-depth analysis of engine performance, efficiency, and emissions across different operational scenarios.
Eddy Current Dynamometer
The Eddy Current Dynamometer at AARTC stands as a versatile asset for engine testing, offering a range of specifications including 147 kW, 350 kW, 257 kW, and 80 kW. This advanced equipment is pivotal in assessing and analyzing engine performance across varying power ranges and conditions. The MEXA-ONE Emission Measurement System by Horiba stands as a cutting-edge solution designed specifically to meet the stringent standards of BS VI and above norms. This advanced system incorporates state-of-the-art technology to accurately measure and analyze emissions from vehicles, ensuring compliance with the strict environmental regulations set forth by BS VI standards.
The AVL Smart Sampler SPC 478 is a sophisticated partial flow dilution system intended for gravimetric sampling of exhaust particulates from internal combustion engines under both steady state and transient conditions. This advanced sampler is instrumental in accurately capturing and analyzing vehicle emissions, ensuring compliance with the rigorous standards set by BSVI and above regulations
Chassis Dynamometer
The chassis dynamometer at AARTC is specifically tailored for testing automatic with its impressive specification of 225 kW. This advanced testing facility enables comprehensive evaluation and analysis of these innovative vehicle types under controlled conditions. With a focus on sustainability and alternative fuel technologies, the dynamometer facilitates rigorous testing to assess vehicle performance, Vehicle Calibration, coast down trials and emissions, ensuring these vehicles meet stringent standards. Robert Bosch – Automotive Electronics Lab
In collaboration with Robert Bosch, the Automotive Electronics Lab stands as a pinnacle of advanced research and practical learning within our institution. This collaboration brings forth a cutting-edge facility that offers students an unparalleled opportunity to delve deep into automotive electronics (Controllers, Battery pack design, ECU, MCU simulations etc) and seamless system integration. Beyond theoretical teachings, this lab provides a hands-on platform for students to explore, experiment, and innovate.
Vehicle Dynamics and Simulation Lab
In order to reduce the cost of development, every manufacturer tries to simulate various driving conditions. In tune with that our curriculum also includes IPG carmaker and Matlab along with other CAE packages like ANSYS, COMSOL and ADAMS included in it. IPG car maker is used to simulate the driving conditions by creating various car model, scenarios and environment.
ADAS Lab
Advanced Driver Assistance System lab consists of sensors and processors which are used to collecting the data and processing it. The current setup consists of Velodyne puck 32 – Lidar, Stereo vision camera – Zdd, Micro autobox from dspace, Opal-RT HIL system and IPG HIL System.
