Abstract : In this paper, we propose a method of estimating top event fuzzy probability of a fault tree in case of a system consisting of multistate elements. To the best of our knowledge, no such attempt has ever been made in this direction in the past. Beta fuzzy probability vectors, as proposed by Stein [9], are used to model the joint-possibility distribution of multistate elements. The use of resolution identity keeps the computational requirement at its minimum. However, the estimation procedure is based on Zadeh's extension principle.
