Bio

Dr. Prashant is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Amrita School of Pharmacy. He joined as a Lecturer at the School of Pharmacy in 2017. He completed his Ph. D. in the Faculty of Pharmacy from the Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, Amrita School of Pharmacy, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in 2022. He did his post-graduation from the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Mohali in 2010-2012. His Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy was from the Govt. Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram.

His Master’s thesis research work entitled ‘Exploration of Non-Shikimic Acid based synthetic routes for the Neuraminidase Inhibitor – Oseltamivir’ was under the guidance of Dr. Asit K Chakraborti (Head, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, NIPER). He had worked for 1 year in Ravi Institute of Medical Sciences, Kerala (2013) before he joined as Senior Research Fellow in 2014 at Amrita Centre for Nanosciences in an Indo Australian Biotechnology Fund, a collaborative project with Monash University, Australia.

His doctorate work entitled “Nanoengineeed autoantigens for the treatment of autoimmune disease Multiple Sclerosis” was under the guidance of Professor Dr. Manzoor K and Dr. Krishnakumar Menon, Professors at Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine. He was a visiting Ph.D scholar at Prof. Dr. Claude Bernard Lab of Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute, Monash University, Australia. In the Ph.D work, he developed splenic-macrophage-specific, biodegradable nanoparticles for the antigenic peptide delivery for inducing tolerance in the autoimmune models. This work was filed for a US patent and was published in the Nanomedicine: NBM and European Journal of Immunology journals.
