Bio

Dr. Sowmya V joined the Center for Computational Engineering and Networking (CEN) in 2011 after completing M. Tech in Remote Sensing and Wireless Sensor Networks from Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore. She has about a year of experience as Programmer Analyst at Cognizant Technology Solution, Chennai. She completed PhD in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Natural Scene Analysis from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.Her broad research area is AI for Signal and Image Analysis. The sub-areas of her research interests include Biomedical, Healthcare and Remote Sensing Data Analysis. Her recent research focus is on “AI for Multimodal Data Analysis.”

She published papers in IEEE Transactions, Artificial Intelligence Review, Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, Soft Computing, IEEE Access, Multimedia Tools and Applications, Neural Computing and Applications, Computers & Security, Healthcare Technology Letters, etc., Her research focus is on Explainable AI, Discriminative and Generative Models applied for Biomedical Data Analysis, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and Satellite Image Analysis. She received the research seed grant from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham for UAV Image Analysis and from Naval Physical Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for the underwater acoustic signal analysis. She received the funding from ICMR, in collaboration with the doctors from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi under “AI for Retinal Image Analysis”.

She has an active research collaboration with one of the top 2 % world scientists listed by Sandford University: Dr. Vinayakumar Ravi, Assistant Research Professor at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University, Saudi Arabia in AI for Biomedical Data Analysis. She also established an active research collaboration with Dr. Ramesh Sivanpillai, Senior Research Scientist, University of Wyoming, United States in AI for UAV and Satellite Image Analysis. She is the recipient of “Women in AI”, “NVIDIA Deep Learning Instructor Ambassadorship”, “Best Engineering Teacher”, “Contributor to Student Development”, “Young Women Researcher” and “Outstanding Researcher.” She is guiding 3 Ph.D. scholars, 1 Post doctoral fellow and co-guiding 3 Ph.D. scholars. She guided more than 30 M.Tech Projects since 2012 andmore than 10 B.Tech projects since 2021.
