Research Interest: Fault Diagnosis of Electrical Motors Used in Electric Vehicles, Application of AI and modern signal processing tools to diagnose the faults

Bio

Dr. Praveen Kumar N joined the Amrita School of Engineering in the year 2011. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics in the year 2004 and Master of Technology in Power Electronics in 2007. He was awarded a Ph.D. from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, in 2019.

He has recently associated with Bosch Global Software Technologies Private Limited to diagnose faults in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors utilized in Electric Vehicles. He developed a test set-up facility in collaboration with Bosch to detect bearing and stator winding inter-turn faults in PMSM. Modern digital signal processing tools and AI techniques are employed to detect these machine faults.

Dr. Praveen Kumar N has industrial experience of 4 years between 2007 and 2011. He served as an Electronics Engineer at National Textiles Corporation Limited.

His areas of research are Electric Drives, Power Electronics, and Electrical Machines. Currently his research interest includes Condition Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis of Induction Motor and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor in Electric Vehicles using Machine Learning Techniques. He is working with software such as MATLAB, ANSYS Electronics, and Xilinx System Generator, etc.; He is also working with several experimental set-ups and modern controllers such as FPGA, dSPACE, PLC Siemens TIA, etc., in the Electric Drives and Controls Laboratory.

Dr. Praveen Kumar N published research papers in several international journals and conferences. He received appreciation for Mentoring Best Technical Paper in State of The Future Art – Technology Day conducted by ELGI Equipments Limited, Coimbatore, in 2021. He has reviewed many international journals and conferences.
