Abstract : In an antenna array the isolation between individual elements is crucial to enhance reflection and radiation properties. This paper presents a simple and efficient method to enhance isolation between the array elements without disturbing the antenna performance. This is achieved by the introduction of planar resonators in between the array elements which acts as an open circuit for the field thus reducing mutual coupling between the patches enhancing isolation. A novel meander line resonator is proposed in this paper for improvement of isolation. An isolation of 26 dB is obtained in a 2 element array at 2.45 GHz using the proposed resonator. Detailed study of electric field and current distribution gives understanding about the working of the proposed resonator for reducing mutual coupling between the array elements. Initially simulations are carried out in HFSS software and then the prototype of the optimized design is fabricated and validated using Vector Network Analyser.
