Abstract : 5G is an evolutionary technology that will deliver newer capabilities for several use cases apart from greater capacity and speed in the wireless networks. To cope with the rapid urbanization, 5G technologies can help in building smarter and digitized services for citizens. One such example is smart city realisation for urban communities. In this case, the current malls and the underlying technology infrastructures in the cities need to be transformed into smart malls with 5G technologies. Towards this objective, we present the technology framework and identify a set of key enabling technologies that underpin the smart mall design. The article puts together the key parts based on the 4G networking area towards an end-to-end smart city concept in the 5G era together with IoT.
