Abstract : Stator interturn fault diagnosis of electrical machines has been a very intensely researched area. The synchronous generator (SG) is a very important component of a power system and there are only a few works that deal with the model based approach to fault diagnosis of a wound rotor synchronous generator. This work deals with the application of augmented Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) to obtain the residual signal for an SG. This signal contains the signature of the fault and can distinguish an interturn fault from a load imbalance of similar magnitude.
