Abstract : Vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) has gained a lot of attraction and importance. It enhances the road safety and provides many value-added services. In VANET particularly Black Hole is a major security threat. A new method is proposed to detect a malicious node that causes black hole and to eliminate the malicious node completely. Various performance metrics are considered for the assessment of VANET during black hole attack which rely on average end to end delay, network throughput, packet loss and packet delivery ratio. Simulation of the network is done by using Network Simulator 2. Simulation environment comprises of 24 vehicular nodes that are dynamic in nature and 1 static nodes that act as road side units. The proposed approach is combined with Ad hoc on demand routing protocol (AODV) to defend and isolate black hole from the network. © 2017 IEEE.
