Abstract : This paper deals with a newly designed matrix converter which will not only eliminate the need for external attributes required for starting single phase induction motor but also will provide a speed control feature for the motor. As it's known that to start a single phase induction motor a phase shift is required in order to produce rotating magnetic field in order to start the single phase induction motor. For this an external switch (centrifugal switch) and a capacitor is required. The need of capacitor and centrifugal switch for motor start can be eliminated through this matrix converter which will produce the 90 degree phase shift and thus eliminating the need of any external control. © 2017 IEEE.
