National Science Day and International Women’s Day Celebration – 2025

The National Science Day and International Women’s Day Celebration was jointly organized by the Co-curricular Committee and the IPA-SF Amrita Student Chapter of Amrita School of Pharmacy on March 4, 2025.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Malini Laloraya, ICMR Emeritus Scientist from the Advanced Centre for Regenerative Biology and Stem Cell Research in Cutaneous Biology, University of Kerala, delivered an insightful lecture on the topic “Prioritizing Women’s Health During My Journey in Science – Challenges and Lessons Learnt.”

Dr. Laloraya’s lecture highlighted the challenges faced by women in science, including inequality, lack of recognition etc. She emphasized the importance of resilience, self-care, and systemic support, which resonated deeply with the audience.

Dr. Laloraya also shared her research experiences, including the effects of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) on females and the emergence of a new type of PCOS in males during adolescence. Her personal anecdotes as a female scientist served as a powerful inspiration to the emerging scientists and students in attendance. Her journey serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of balancing health and ambition in the pursuit of scientific excellence.

The program was attended by students from B.Pharm (4th and 6th semesters), Pharm.D (2nd and 3rd years), and M.Pharm (1st year), along with the Principal and faculty members. It concluded at 12:30 pm with the singing of the National Anthem.

As per the recommendation of the University Grants Commission (UGC) for Women’s Day Celebration 2025, a Fitness Awareness Program was organized exclusively for the lady faculty, staff, and girl students of Amrita School of Pharmacy on March 19, 2025.

The program commenced with an inspiring address by Dr. Sabitha M., Principal, Amrita School of Pharmacy, who shared her personal fitness journey. She emphasized the significance of starting a fitness routine at an early age, stressing how physical activity not only improves overall health but also enhances mental well-being and productivity. She also highlighted the importance of consistency, explaining how regular fitness workouts, even in small amounts, can lead to significant long-term benefits.

Following the insightful session, an interactive Fitness Challenge was conducted for the participants, encouraging them to test their strength, endurance, and determination. The challenge featured engaging exercises such as dumbbell holding, dumbbell squats, planks, Burpee jumping, and push-ups. The participants enthusiastically took part, demonstrating great energy and competitive spirit. The winners of the Fitness Challenge were awarded trophies.
