Abstract : Landslides are major events that destroy human life and properties on a large scale. Monitoring landslide areas, early detection, and prediction of landslides can save human lives. This requires sophisticated sensors and IoT systems that collect the data at an early stage to predict the precursor events. In this work, the authors focus on the development of a low-cost data acquisition device that is capable of detecting ground vibrational signals using geophones and can help provide valuable information on precursor events. The paper describes the trigger factors for landslides and the system architecture of the new data acquisition sensor development and monitoring system. The paper also describes the steps involved in the development and testing of the data acquisition unit and the testbed results. The system will be deployed in Sikkim for live data collection and real-time monitoring of the Sikkim area, which is prone to frequent landslides.
