Syllabus

Unit I

Introduction to Product Photography

Overview of product photography genres, applications, and industry trends. Various lighting techniques used in product photography, including natural and artificial lighting.

Unit II

Advanced Lighting and Lenses

Principles of studio lighting: key light, fill light, and accent light. Advanced lighting setups for different types of products: reflective, translucent, and textured. Techniques for controlling light intensity, direction, and quality.

Unit III

Composition, Backgrounds and Styling

Appropriate backgrounds and props to complement the product and convey the desired message. Composition principles: rule of thirds, leading lines, and negative space. Product styling techniques: arrangement of props, creating visual interest, and highlighting product features. Color theory and its application in product photography.

Unit IV

Post-Production Editing and Optimization.

Advanced image editing techniques for product photography: color correction, retouching, and background manipulation. Image optimization for various platforms: print, web, and social media

Unit V

Planning and Executing a Project

Planning and executing a product photography shoot, from concept development to the final product. Presentation of series of high-quality product images for a hypothetical client or personal project.

Objectives and Outcomes

Objective:

The objective of this course is to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the field of product photography. Building on the basics of photography learned in the first semester, this course will delve deeper into the practical aspects of product photography. Students will learn how to effectively use lighting, composition, and editing techniques to create compelling images that highlight the features and appeal of various products.

CO2 Analyze and select appropriate backgrounds and props for product photography.

CO3 Create compelling compositions that highlight the product’s appeal.

CO4 Evaluate and edit product photographs using advanced editing tools.
