Definition of sports news and characteristics of sports journalist, Overview of sports journalism, Historical context and evolution of sports coverage, Role of sports journalists in media Principles of sports reporting, sports journalism trends

Unit II

Interviewing and writing in Sports Journalism

Interview techniques for athletes, coaches, and officials, preparing for and conducting sports interviews, handling sensitive or controversial topics in sports interviews, Feature writing in sports journalism, Game

recaps and analysis, Opinion pieces and columns, writing techniques for sports stories, best practices for covering sports events

Unit III

Ethical Considerations in Sports Journalism

Integrity and objectivity in sports reporting, Conflict of interest and bias, Coverage of controversial topics in sports, rules and regulations of sport items, law related to sports

Unit IV

Basics of sports photography, Multimedia storytelling in sports journalism, social media strategies for sports journalists

Unit V

Sports Broadcasting and Commentary

Introduction to sports broadcasting, Techniques for live sports commentary, Ethics in sports broadcasting, analysing sports events and performances, Providing insightful commentary and critique.

Objectives and Outcomes

Sports Journalism is an exciting and dynamic field that combines the thrill of sports with the rigor of journalism. This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to cover sports events, analyse athletic performance, and report on sports-related issues. Through a combination of theoretical lectures, practical assignments, guest speakers, and fieldwork, students will explore the principles, techniques, and ethical considerations of sports journalism.

Course Outcome (CO):

CO1 Understand the role and importance of sports journalism in media.

CO2 To Ascertain journalistic skills specific to sports reporting, including interviewing athletes, coaches, and officials.

CO3 Advocate effective storytelling techniques for sports stories across various platforms.

CO4 Analyse sports events and trends critically.

CO5 Assess ethical considerations and challenges in sports journalism.

CO6 Construct practical experience in sports reporting through fieldwork and assignments, to produce high-quality sports journalism content.
