Importance of visualization and storyboarding in film production-Introduction to visual storytelling principles-Analyzing films for visual storytelling techniques
Principles of Storyboarding and Drawing Fundamentals
Elements of a storyboard- Sequential storytelling- Transition techniques in storyboarding- Basic drawing techniques- Perspective drawing.
Creating Narrative Storyboards
Scene breakdown and shot selection- Blocking and staging in storyboards- Incorporating dialogue and sound in storyboards- Genre-specific considerations in storyboarding.
Advanced Storyboarding Techniques
Planning and visualizing action scenes- Dynamic camera movements- Storyboarding for special effects and visual effects sequences- Collaborative storyboarding and teamwork
Introduction to digital storyboarding software- Creating digital storyboards- Pros and cons of digital vs. traditional storyboarding- Students will work individually or in groups to create a comprehensive storyboard for a short film or scene. Presentation of final work and critique session.
Objective:
The primary objective of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of visualization and storyboarding within the context of film production. Through theoretical learning and
hands-on practice, students will develop the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively employ visual storytelling principles in creating compelling storyboards. Through collaborative exercises, students will learn the significance of teamwork in the storyboarding process, fostering skills in communication and collaboration. Ultimately, students will culminate their learning by individually or collaboratively crafting a comprehensive storyboard for a short film or scene, presenting their final work for critique and feedback to refine their skills further.
