Syllabus

Unit I

Introduction to Digital Videography

Familiarizing different digital video cameras and accessories- Lens and lens filters, tripods, other camera support systems- Understanding exposure- Concept of depth of field

Unit II

Shooting Techniques and Equipment

Camera movement techniques using camera supporting systems: panning, tilting, tracking, etc.

Unit III

Basic principles of composition and framing

Introduction to different types of shots: wide, medium, close-up, etc. Fundamental compositions like rule of third, leading line, golden ration etc.

Unit IV

Lighting essentials

Natural light, artificial light, three-point lighting setup.

Unit V

Advanced Techniques and Project Work

Advanced camera techniques: slow motion, time-lapse, etc. Conceptualizing, planning, and executing a short video project. Assembling a professional portfolio for career advancement. Presentation of a short video work incorporating all the elements.

Objectives and Outcomes

Objective:

The objective of this course is to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively plan and shoot high-quality digital video content. Through hands-on experience and theoretical study, students will develop proficiency in various aspects of digital videography, including camera operation, composition, and lighting.

Course Outcome (CO):

  • CO1 Recall terminology related to digital video camera settings, lenses, camera support systems, audio settings, basic light setup, and composition.
  • CO2 Understand the fundamental principles of digital videography including resolution, frame rates, camera settings, camera support systems. Knowing basic lighting setup, shot types and different compositions.
  • CO3 Apply technical skills in operating digital cameras, camera support system, lighting setups, and audio recording equipment to effectively capture high-quality video footage in various shooting environments.
  • CO4 Critically evaluates video compositions in professional video productions, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
  • CO5 Assess their own video projects and those of their peers, providing constructive feedback based on aesthetic principles, technical execution, and storytelling effectiveness.
  • CO6 Design and execute a comprehensive digital video project, considering pre-production planning, production logistics, and post-production workflows. Create a portfolio showcasing diverse videography skills.
