Unit I

Introduction to Creative Writing

Refining Vocabulary – Developing Hints, Reading Comprehension, Situational Imagination – Expression of Imagination in Language, Creation of Word Pictures – Creation of Ambience

Unit II

Media Writing

News Writing, Feature Writing, Column Writing, Sports Writing, Review Writing, Content Writing

Unit III

Writing for Different Media Formats

Scriptwriting for film and television – Writing for web series and digital content – Copywriting for advertising and marketing – Writing for social media and digital platforms – Writing press releases, blogs, long form and short form articles

Unit IV

Writing Narrative Fiction

Elements of Narration – Story and Plot – Characterization, Choice of Medium of Narration – Point of View, Short Stories – Novellas –Extended Narratives

Unit V

Writing for Stage and Screen

Basics of Script Writing for Stage and Screen, Plot, Characters, Dialogues Characterization on, Stage – Dialects and characterization through dialogue – Stage devices and ambience creation

Objective:

The Creative Writing course is designed to unlock the creativity and storytelling potential within each student. Through engaging lectures, writing exercises, and peer feedback sessions, students will embark on a journey of self-expression and artistic growth. This course provides a supportive and collaborative

environment where aspiring writers can explore various genres, hone their craft, and develop a unique voice. Whether you are a seasoned writer seeking to refine your skills or a beginner embarking on a new creative endeavour, this course will equip you with the tools and techniques to bring your stories to life.

Course Outcome (CO):

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • CO1 Understand the essential elements of storytelling, including character development, plot structure, dialogue, and descriptive writing.
  • CO2 Explain with different writing genres suitable for media like news writing, feature writing, column writing, sports writing, content writing, and scriptwriting, to explore diverse forms of creative expression.
  • CO3 Lead in constructive critique and peer review processes, providing insightful feedback to fellow writers while also learning to receive and incorporate constructive criticism into their own
  • CO4 Analyze and appreciate exemplary works of literature, drawing inspiration from masterful storytelling and using it to inform their own creative endeavours.
  • CO5 Build confidence in their writing abilities and develop a portfolio of polished creative pieces that showcase their growth and accomplishments throughout the course.
