Abstract : The surface modification of pencil graphite electrode (PGE) is highly recommendable to accomplish innovative electrodes for the electrochemical quantification of the target analyte. The surface alteration with 3-Aminobenzoic acid (3-ABA) facilitates easy, electrochemical assessment of guanine (GUA). The monomer film generation on the electrode surface carried out by a simple electro-polymerization technique that helps to achieve homogenous film on the electrode surface. The characterization studies like Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirm the presence of functional groups of modifier over the electrode surface. The reduced flakiness and uniform surface attributed to the monomer film on electrode surface promotes the electrochemical performance of this sensor. Thus, developed p-(3-ABA)/PGE electrode exhibited superior electrochemical properties when it employed towards the analysis of GUA. The electrooxidation of guanine to 8-oxoguanine at potential 0.65 V give rise to characteristic peak for the analysis. The electrode displayed remarkable linear range of concentration for the guanine detection, 0.5-500 M and lowest limit of detection value (LOD), 0.25 M. Thus, this developed sensor can be further extended to detect GUA from biological samples.
