Procedure for Body Donation

Amrita School of Medicine, Faridabad

“Body Donation” is the process of donating one’s body after death to medical science. Body donation is a voluntary act and does not require police permission if a death certificate stating natural death is provided by a registered medical practitioner.

What is the Procedure for Body Donation?

The process is governed by the Anatomy Act of India and involves the following steps:

Registration for Body Donation

  1. Interested individuals must fill out the Body Donation Will Form.
  2. Attach a passport-size photo to the form and send the original copy to:
    Department of Anatomy, Amrita School of Medicine, Faridabad – 121002.

    • Keep a xerox copy of the completed form for personal records.
  3. Upon receipt of the completed form, a Body Donation Card with the donor’s attested photograph will be issued. This card must be presented by the next of kin (NOK) at the time of donation, along with the mortal remains.

Documents Required for Body Donation

  • Death Certificate issued by a Registered Medical Practitioner (MBBS doctor).
  • Death Pass Certificate from the Gram Panchayat, Municipality, Corporation, or Cantonment Board, if available.
    • If the Death Pass is unavailable, a willingness certificate for body donation from the NOK, on legal stamp paper and notarized by a registered notary, must be submitted.
  • Identity proof of the donor and consenting relatives (original and two photocopies).

Additional Guidelines

  1. The next of kin must honor the donor’s wishes as expressed in the Body Donation Will Form and provide written consent.
  2. Medico-legal cases, post-mortem bodies, or cases involving HIV/HBsAg-positive individuals will not be accepted.
  3. The body must be in a natural state (not putrefied).
  4. Mortal remains are accepted round the clock at the Department of Anatomy
  5. A hearse van is available upon request to transport the body
