Amrita School of Dentistry Launches State-of-the-Art Digital Dentistry Centre

Marking a significant technological leap in dental education, the Amrita School of Dentistry has inaugurated a cutting-edge Digital Dentistry Centre within its Prosthodontics Department. The event, held at Amrita Hospital, was a landmark occasion for the institution and the state of Kerala.

This advanced facility is the first of its kind in Kerala, bringing together the latest in dental technology under one roof. It features a high-end CAD-CAM (Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing) laboratory, integrated with 3D printing and extended reality technologies. These innovations enable a fully digital workflow in the manufacture of dental prostheses, ensuring unmatched accuracy, faster production times, and superior patient outcomes. Additionally, the centre offers unprecedented learning opportunities for students and researchers alike.

The Digital Dentistry Centre was inaugurated by Dr. K.S. Radhakrishnan, former Vice Chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University, Kalady, and former Chairman of the Kerala Public Service Commission. Swami Purnamritananda Puri, General Secretary of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, delivered the benedictory address. Esteemed dignitaries who spoke at the event included Dr. Prem Nair, Group Medical Director of Amrita Hospitals; Dr. Balagopal Varma R., Principal of Amrita School of Dentistry; Dr. Rupesh P.L., President of the Indian Prosthodontic Society Kerala State Branch; Dr. Narayanan Unni; Dr. Rakesh S.; Dr. Manju V.; Dr. Subramania Iyer; Dr. Pramod Subash; Dr. Mahesh Kappanayil; and Dr. M. Shiva Shankar.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Manju V., Professor and Head of Prosthodontics at the Amrita School of Dentistry, emphasized the transformative impact of the centre. “Alongside dental studies, gaining knowledge in advanced digital dentistry technologies will empower students to seize future opportunities in this thriving field.The new CAD-CAM lab enables the creation of dental restorations with enhanced precision, particularly in implant-supported prostheses,” she said.

The department is also set to introduce advanced training programs in collaboration with Amrita 3D-iology Labs, which leverages cutting-edge virtual and mixed reality technologies. Equipped with a state-of-the-art German CAD-CAM system, the center is capable of the precise manufacturing of dental prostheses made from zirconium and titanium.The facility specializes in the efficient production of multi-unit zirconia, titanium components, wax patterns, graphene-based structures, reconstruction plates, cast partial frameworks, and more.
