Abstract : In this paper, we propose to find the initial seeds for K-means clustering using Particle swarm optimization (PSO) for compressing images. PSO is a relatively new optimization method developed based on the social behavior of individuals and aims to find the global optimum of a fitness function defined in a given search space. The proposed method shows enhanced performance in terms of image quality, when applied to test images.
