The journey of the Self-Employed Tailoring Center at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s Amritapuri campus began with a successful inauguration on August 24, 2022. This initiative quickly expanded, with two additional centers opened at the Amritapuri ashram shortly thereafter.

Equipped with 15 tailoring machines and all essential materials such as fabrics, pins, scissors, threads, and cutting tables, the center created a fully functional environment for skill development and entrepreneurship.

The first batch of 22 participants, based at Amritapuri campus, embarked on a transformative five-month training program, which included:

• Tailoring Basics: Understanding tools, fabrics, and measurements
• Basic Product Design: Creating simple items like neckties and pillowcases
• Advanced Product Design: Crafting children’s garments, jablas, and more
• Basic Sewing Techniques: Hands-on practice with sewing machines
• Entrepreneurship and Business Planning
• Waste Management
• Digital Literacy

This program has flourished since its inception, with 8 batches successfully completed at the Amritapuri Campus and Ashram, and 187 students graduating to date.

Each batch has equipped individuals with valuable skills and empowered them to create their own entrepreneurial opportunities, making a significant impact on their communities.
