Dr. Rajesh Kannan Megalingam, Director of HuT Labs and Head of the ACORD Center at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, along with Mr. Sakthiprasad K.M., Scientist and Project Manager, recently received funding from IEEE Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) for their pioneering initiative, the “AI-based Coconut Dehusking Machine.”
The project, which aims to revolutionize the coconut processing industry, was recognized for its innovative use of artificial intelligence to address the challenges faced in traditional coconut dehusking methods. The funding will support the development of a cutting-edge machine designed to enhance efficiency, safety, and accessibility in coconut dehusking, a critical need for agricultural communities.
The IEEE EPICS program supports projects that use engineering and technology to address pressing community needs. The funding received by the team at HuT Labs underscores Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s reputation as a leader in innovation and societal impact.
The AI-based Coconut Dehusking Machine is expected to undergo prototyping and testing phases over the next year, with the ultimate goal of deploying the technology to benefit agricultural communities both locally and globally.
