Abstract : With a constant rise in the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas causing an adverse effect on the environment, the review of numerous studies and actions were initiated to deal with the issue of global warming. While the industries and transportation are commonly recognized as the main contributors for the cause of CO2 emissions. It is also important to note the significance of CO2 emissions in the residential areas can’t be overlooked. This study focuses on detail analysis of CO2 emissions from the residential areas, its sources and influencing factors for the implementation of sustainable development in the urban areas. This study reviews about the sources of the CO2 emissions from the buildings and its key variables affecting them, which includes heating, cooling, cooking and electricity consumption through an extensive literature survey and more detailed investigations. This study also addresses the influences of CO2, such as occupant behavior, building design and insulation, and its necessary actions taken to improve the energy efficiency. The findings highlight the significant environmental impact of residential emissions, including the contribution to atmospheric CO2 concentration and the acceleration of climate change. Moreover, this study undergoes the potential for mitigation strategies in residential areas, including energy efficiency improvements, adoption of renewable energy sources, behavior change programs, and policy interventions. The outcomes of this study provide valuable information for policy-makers, town planners, and shareholders to develop targeted initiatives that effectively reduce CO2 emissions from residential buildings. By implementing energy-conserving techniques, supporting green initiatives, spreading consciousness among residents, a transition towards low-carbon residential areas can be achieved. Such a shift holds the potential to contribute to broader climate goals, improve air quality, and enhance the overall sustainability of urban environments.
