Our goal is to power all campus operations with renewable energy by 2035, aligning with global sustainability targets. We believe universities must lead the way in advocating for renewable energy and sustainable practices.

As a testament to Amrita’s commitment to 100% renewable energy, students and faculty from various campuses came together to pledge their responsibility toward 100% renewable energy and championing a sustainable future, fostering a more conscious and environmentally mindful community.

The pledge was taken on the occasion of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Energy Conservation Week, observed at Amrita from November 27th to November 30th, 2023 where students from all the campuses gathered at Amrita’s Ettimadai Campus in Coimbatore, India.

At Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, we pledge to lead the transition to 100% renewable energy not only on our campuses but also in the broader community. Guided by our commitment to climate action and global sustainability, we dedicate ourselves to creating a future powered by clean energy through the following key initiatives:

• We pledge to install rooftop solar panels across all campuses, meeting up to 50% of our energy needs within the next decade.
• We will explore wind and hybrid energy systems, implementing feasibility studies and pilot programs within three years to reduce dependency on non-renewable sources.
• Beyond our campuses, we aim to serve as a model for institutions and communities to replicate these renewable energy solutions.

• We will partner with renewable energy suppliers through Green Power Purchase Agreements, sourcing clean energy from wind and solar farms within five years.
• By collaborating with governmental and non-governmental organizations, we pledge to promote renewable energy projects in local, national, and global contexts, encouraging communities to join the clean energy movement.

• On campus, we commit to upgrading infrastructure with energy-efficient technologies, targeting a 20-30% reduction in energy demand.
• We will inspire energy-saving practices among the university community, reducing consumption by 10% immediately and sustaining these efforts over time.
• Through outreach, we aim to extend these conservation practices to households, institutions, and communities beyond our campuses.

• We pledge to lead public campaigns raising awareness about the importance and benefits of renewable energy, launching these initiatives within the next year.
• By offering workshops and courses on renewable energy technologies, we will empower individuals and communities to adopt sustainable practices and lead the clean energy revolution.

To ensure accountability and inspire widespread action, we pledge to:

• Conduct annual energy audits to track progress toward renewable energy goals.
• Publish annual reports to highlight achievements, challenges, and updated strategies, sharing insights with other institutions and communities.
