The event attracted 14 participants eager to learn about nutrition and care for themselves and their infants. The clinic provided a platform for mothers to engage in discussions about health and wellness during the critical early months of motherhood.
During the session, Dr. Annie (MPH) emphasized the importance of a balanced diet for lactating mothers, highlighting how proper nutrition contributes to both the mother’s health and the baby’s development. She discussed the significance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, explaining how it enhances the baby’s immunity and promotes healthy growth. This information was crucial for the attendees as they navigated the challenges of motherhood.
In addition, Dr. Gopika (MPH) presented a detailed overview of millets, showcasing 12 different varieties and their nutritional benefits. She shared practical recipes that lactating mothers could incorporate into their diets, emphasizing how millets can be a nutritious and healthy addition to their meals. Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences Observes International De-worming Day in Local Schools
On January 17th, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences observed International De-worming Day by organizing health initiatives in local schools. The government-supplied albendazole tablets were distributed to students, ensuring that all children received the medication as instructed. This initiative aimed to improve the health of children in the community by addressing the common issue of worm infestations, which can significantly affect their well-being and academic performance.
To raise awareness about the importance of deworming, informative sessions were conducted at L.P. School Elamkunnapuzha and Government U.P. School Edavanakkad. Dr. Haseena, a postgraduate from the Community Medicine Department at AIMS, led these sessions, supported by staff members Anusha (Health Instructor) and Prameela (Junior Public Health Nurse). The sessions were held at 11 am and 2 pm, respectively, and focused on educating students, teachers, headmasters, and non-teaching staff about the deworming process and its benefits.
The participation from both schools was enthusiastic, reflecting the community’s commitment to improving children’s health. Through these educational efforts, AIMS successfully disseminated critical information about deworming and its role in preventing health issues, fostering a healthier environment for the students in the local area.
