Coimbatore – Students from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham have won the prestigious All-Track Grand Prize at HackHarvard 2024. Third-year B.Tech CSE-AI students, Amrit Subramanian, Kottakki Srikar Vamsi, Chukka Navneet Krishna, and Surya Santhosh Kumar, received top honors for their innovative AI-based application, Sustainify, which encourages individuals to make sustainable choices in their daily lives, positively impacting both the planet and human well-being. Sustainify is designed to help users repurpose waste creatively and make environmentally friendly shopping decisions. By uploading images of waste items such as bottles or soda cans, the app generates detailed DIY project ideas with step-by-step instructions for upcycling.
Additionally, Sustainify’s eco-shopping assistant scans products in stores to recommend options with lower carbon footprints, emphasizing sustainable manufacturing practices. The app aligns with a vision of “dual sustainability,” aspiring to create a future where the Earth and its people thrive together. Sustainify embodies this approach, serving as a tool for individuals to take meaningful steps toward a sustainable future. HackHarvard 2024, a prominent 36-hour hackathon hosted by Harvard University students, focused on the theme “Hack 4 Impact: Unlocking Impact with Technology.” This event brought together innovative minds from across the globe, all committed to developing solutions that address pressing global challenges. Sustainify reflects this goal, demonstrating how sustainable living can be achieved through technology, creativity, and informed choices.
