Senior Scientist at The Nature Conservancy, Hon Res Fellow at Cambridge Uni & Chief Science Advisor to the Government of the Chagos Archipelago, Siena, Toscana, Italia
Mark is a marine conservation scientist, with a passion for nature. He has a unique, global, perspective on oceans and coasts, having specialised for 30 years in telling the “big picture” through large-scale syntheses, such as the renowned World Atlas publications (below). He has worked with partners around the world assessing the status of coastal biodiversity and monitoring conservation efforts. Alongside this work Mark has focused on coral reef science, with a practical focus on the Indian Ocean.
Mark is the Senior Marine Scientist in the Protect Team at The Nature Conservancy. His current work focuses on ecosystem services valuation. This involves direct research and support of research teams worldwide. Mark also works as a senior advisor for the Chagos Archpelago, including one of the most important marine protected areas in the world.
Mark is an Honorary Research Fellow in the Dept of Zoology in the University of Cambridge, but is actually based out of a home office in Siena, Italy.
