Public events hosted at Amrita university on Ad hoc and Programmed basis 

C20 Integrated Holistic Health Summit, Faridabad 

In alignment with the principles of lifelong education, the C20 Integrated Holistic Health Summit serves as a prime example of extending access to educational resources beyond traditional university settings. Held from April 7–9, 2023, at the Amrita Hospitals Convention Center in Faridabad, Haryana, this event provided a dynamic platform for individuals from diverse backgrounds to engage in transformative learning experiences. 

Organized under the banner of C20 India, the summit focused on promoting integrated and holistic approaches to health and wellness, making cutting-edge knowledge accessible to all participants, whether affiliated with formal institutions or not. It welcomed experts, practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to collaboratively explore key themes, such as: 

• Mental Health 
• Nutrition and Health 
• Elderly Care and End-of-Life Care 
• Holistic Health (including Traditional Medicine, Yoga, and Meditation) 
• Women and Children’s Health and Wellness 
• One Health (focusing on communicable diseases) 
• Non-Communicable Diseases 

Inclusive Education and Participation 

The summit emphasized inclusivity by offering both in-person and online participation, ensuring that knowledge dissemination transcended physical barriers. Delegates from around the globe, including health ministers, representatives from the WHO and UN, multinational NGOs, and experts from ICMR and NMC, gathered to discuss and shape actionable policy recommendations. 

Workshops within the summit provided hands-on learning opportunities, culminating in the development of practical, evidence-based policy proposals for global health improvement. The outcomes of these sessions will be presented to the C20 Chair in July and ultimately to G20 leaders in September 2023, reinforcing the global impact of such educational efforts. 

Expanding Access to Knowledge 

This event underscores the power of non-traditional educational initiatives in empowering individuals and communities. By bridging academic expertise with real-world applications, the summit demonstrated how lifelong education can address pressing global challenges, fostering collaboration, awareness, and actionable solutions beyond the confines of university walls. Such initiatives highlight the importance of making quality education accessible to all, contributing to a more informed and equitable society.

64th All India Adult Education Conference inaugurated at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore 

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, in collaboration with the Indian Adult Education Association, Shanti Ashram, and Gandhigram Rural Institute, hosted the 64th All India Adult Education Conference at its Coimbatore campus. Ranked among India’s top 10 universities by NIRF 2023, the university welcomed over 170 participants from across the country for the three-day event. 

The inauguration ceremony featured Dr. (Tmt) Tamilisai Soundararajan, Hon’ble Governor of Telangana and Lt. Governor of the Union Territory of Puducherry, as the Chief Guest, along with other distinguished dignitaries. The conference focused on the theme “Role of Higher Education Institutions in National Education Policy 2020 – A Way Ahead” and explored the role of higher education institutions in implementing the transformative vision of NEP 2020. 

Following the inaugural session, the event included discussions on various topics, such as educational governance, implementation strategies, digital and health literacy, skill development for community empowerment, corporate social responsibility in education, transformative approaches, the role of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), volunteerism, and gender issues. 

Two-day International Conference on Indian Ideologies and Traditional Practices, Mysuru Campus 

The Two-Day International Conference on Indian Ideologies and Traditional Practices was successfully held on November 18–19, 2022, in a hybrid format, organized by Amrita Darshanam (International Centre for Spiritual Studies) and the Department of Languages, Amrita School of Arts, Humanities and Commerce, Mysuru Campus. 

This conference coincided with India’s Amrit Mahotsav, marking 75 years of independence, and was a tribute to the nation’s rich tradition of learning and education. India has long been celebrated as a global hub for quality education, with its ideologies influencing spiritual, cultural, and educational practices across nations. 

Key Themes and Highlights 

The conference underscored India’s historical contributions to knowledge systems: 

• Global Reach of Indian Ideologies: Discussions highlighted how principles rooted in Indian ideologies shaped global religious traditions like Buddhism and Jainism, spreading to regions such as China, Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Tibet. 
• Revitalizing Traditional Knowledge: Scholars explored how ancient Indian traditions have evolved over time, addressing the socio-linguistic and religious factors affecting their practice and preservation. 
• Platform for Exchange: The event facilitated meaningful dialogues between scholars, researchers, and students, fostering intellectual exchanges to inspire further studies and collaboration. 

Objectives Achieved 

• Recognition and Revitalization: The conference emphasized the enduring importance of Indian ideologies in shaping cultural and traditional practices across centuries. 
• Documentation and Dissemination: Contributions from eminent scholars will be published as a research document to ensure systematic documentation of this invaluable knowledge. 

The conference served as a vital step towards bridging the past and present, providing participants with insights into holistic aspects of Indian traditions while encouraging continued research and exploration. 

6th Amrita International Public Health Conference 2023, Hybrid Mode 

The 6th Amrita International Public Health Conference (AIPHC) 2023, held on December 1–2, 2023, marked a significant milestone in advancing public health education and lifelong learning. Organized by the Department of Community Medicine and Public Health in collaboration with the Department of Oncology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, the event was themed “Advancing Public Health Strategies for Cancer Control.

Cancer remains one of the most complex global health challenges, affecting millions worldwide. The conference brought together experts from academia, public health organizations, policy circles, and practitioners to address this pressing issue. Discussions centered on innovative strategies for cancer prevention, early detection, improved treatment access, and patient care. 

Highlights of the Event: 

• Keynote Speeches: Renowned public health and oncology experts shared insights on the latest advancements in cancer control strategies. 
• Collaborative Learning: Participants from diverse backgrounds engaged in discussions on early detection, access to care, and advocacy for policy change. 
• Networking Opportunities: The event fostered meaningful connections between practitioners, researchers, and policymakers, encouraging interdisciplinary solutions. 

This conference exemplified the university’s commitment to extending learning opportunities beyond its student body, empowering communities through education and collaboration. AIPHC 2023 showcased how lifelong learning initiatives can address real-world challenges, highlighting the potential of education to drive meaningful social impact. 

By uniting efforts across disciplines, this year’s event reinforced the belief that through education, advocacy, and action, we can make significant strides in combating cancer and improving public health outcomes.

 The Amrita Center for International Programs (ACIP) serves as the central hub for fostering international academic relations at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
