Dr. Victor Nizet

Dr. Victor Nizet is a Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics and Pharmacy at the University of California San Diego (UCSD), where he serves as Vice Chair for Basic Research in Pediatrics and Chief of the Division of Host-Microbe Systems and Therapeutics. Since joining UCSD in 1997, his research has focused on understanding bacterial virulence factors, host innate immunity, and innovative therapies for infectious diseases. He has authored over 510 peer-reviewed publications and leads the UC San Diego Collaborative to Halt-Antibiotic Resistant Microbes (CHARM), an initiative addressing antibiotic resistance. Dr. Nizet’s work includes collaborations on antibiotics, vaccines, and immune- based therapies. He is an elected member of prestigious societies like the National Academy of Medicine and has received numerous awards, including the E. Mead Johnson Award for Excellence in Pediatrics Research and the American Society for Microbiology’s DC White Award for Interdisciplinary Research and Mentoring.
