Abstract : The time-centered routine consultations have been shown to be inadequate in imparting the necessary knowledge and practical skills for the children and the family suffering from atopic dermatitis. There is a need to complement medical treatment with adequate counseling or focused psychological and educational interventions, directed at the patient and the parents. The authors discuss the various approaches in “counseling” that has been used worldwide and propose a practical approach for the same in the Indian scenario.
