Amrita at the UNESCO Summit in Ethiopia to Shape Africa’s Educational Future

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s UNESCO Chair professors, Dr. Maneesha Ramesh and Dr. Bhavani Rao, attended the Transforming Knowledge for Africa’s Future summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The event was organized by the African Union Commission and UNESCO under the patronage of H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

The summit brought together UNESCO Chairs, UNITWIN Networks, scholars, civil society organizations, and development partners from around the world. Participants engaged in dialogue and collaborative efforts to shape the future of knowledge and education in Africa. Dr. Maneesha Ramesh, Provost at Amrita and UNESCO Chair on Experiential Learning for Sustainable Innovation & Development, and Dr. Bhavani Rao, Dean of Schools of Social & Behavioral Sciences and UNESCO Chair in Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality, contributed to discussions on strengthening interdisciplinary research, fostering open science, and setting future research agendas.

During the visit, Amrita team met with Mohamed Elfarnawany, UNESCO Director for Priority Africa Coordination, further reinforcing Amrita’s commitment to global collaboration in education and sustainable development.
