Ph. D. in English is a doctoral program offered by the School of Arts, Humanities and Commerce Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amaravati, Bengaluru and Coimbatorecampuses.
English Language and Literature, Applied Linguistics, and Translation Studies make a worthy contribution to the whole gamut of studies related to the humanities and social sciences. Different phases of literary development represent the milieu and nuances of given societies, with a plethora of human psyche-related ramifications. The political shifts and styles of governance highlighting both the ills and positive aspects of society are writ large. The intended PhD programme delves deep into diction, narratology, plot, and those other features that contribute to interpreting and analysing different literary phenomena related to chosen literary production, such as morpho-phonemic, syntactic, semantic, pragmatic, stylistic, semiotic studies, etc., in linguistic aspects of study in addition to translation and transliteration.
English Language Pedagogy, especially the Methods of Teaching in respect of documented methods with an orientation towards emergent methodology, reflective practice, studies related to standardised and authentic materials, and assessment mechanisms pertaining to norm-referenced, criterion-referenced, and beyond form parts of different PhD projects envisaged. The PhD programme conforms to the structure enunciated and prescribed by the University. The PhD programme amply stands for compassion-driven research, as enunciated by Her Holiness Amma.
